| While heading the Nissan account at Chiat/Day, we launched over 20 different new car models. Our introduction of the Nissan Altima as "the affordable luxury sedan" was considered one of the smartest ad campaigns in the car industry. We helped the Altima gain an instant reputation for quality and value by showing the $13,000 car successfully duplicating the "wine glass" and "ball-bearing" demonstrations made famous by Lexus. After one year, the Altima was the best-selling new car nameplate in automotive history.
We were also responsible for the launch of the Nissan Xterra. Our ability to make the Xterra stand out in a crowded SUV market earned the campaign the Grand Effie award for the most effective advertising done in America.
When we weren't launching new models, the President of Nissan asked us to create the most talked about and liked car commercials in the country... Our "Enjoy the ride" campaign finished the year as the most liked campaign in America according to USA Today's likeability poll. Meanwhile, the Nissan "Toys" commercial was named Commercial of the Year by Time, Rolling Stone, USA Today and Adweek. The "Toy's" spot is the single most honored car commercial of all time and it was voted by consumers in a USA Today poll as the most liked commercial of the past decade.
